The Spread-A-Bale dealership network continues to expand, with the appointment of Bredy Agricentre, at Dorchester, Dorset; Ross Farm Machinery in the Welsh borders, and existing dealer Russells now being awarded the dealership for the whole of Yorkshire. Bredy Agricentre has its headquarters at Louds Mill, to the East of Dorchester, with parts depots at Sturminster Newton in North Dorset and Crewkerne in Somerset. It is a main dealer for Case IH, Manitou, Kverneland and Bomford. Sales Manager Martin Walsh believes there is a strong market for the machine: “It is unique machine, well-designed and very well made. There are a large number of big dairy herds locally – several with 600 cows or more – and they all use telescopic loaders. The Spread-A-Bale will enable them to greatly reduce the time and work involved in bedding down cattle”. Ross Farm Machinery – already a Simba Horsch dealer – will distribute the Spread-A-Bale from its Martley, Ross-on-Wye and Raglan branches. Simba Territory Manager Ross Gregg believes the machine will find a ready market in the area, which is home to a considerable number of both dairy and beef units, a view echoed by Ross’ sales manager Andrew Hempshall: “Farmers around here have tried a range of different machines to spread bedding with mixed results. We think the new Spread-A-Bale machines have ‘got it right’, and we expect to have an expanding market for them. “The main benefit is the time saving that can be achieved. There is also a strong safety aspect in that you can bed down cattle without getting in the pen with them, which is an issue following several accidents in this region in recent years. “Users find their straw also lasts a lot better, and the bed is more evenly distributed, with no ‘wads’ of straw”. He also expects the new Side-Discharge model to prove popular among those farmers looking to use round bales to bed down smaller numbers of stock or working in confined buildings.
